Well, add to the list: learn about engines. This museum was just incredible.
Housed in a former tobacco factory, the museum juxtaposed perfectly preserved cars and engines, designer fashion, and art through the ages, each complementing the other.
Belle époque automobiles and Edwardian fashion. Art deco automobiles and flapper dresses. Art nouveau automobiles and curvilinear dresses with butterflies and dragonflies. You get the idea.
What a novel and unique idea, everything PRISTINELY preserved and explained thoroughly, how everything on display was culturally relevant and connected and how and why that came to be in that time frame. Mind blown, just… blown away.
It’s missing just one important thing… mathematics. The mathematics and the physics and electrical engineering behind the engines and the aerodynamic qualities (or lack thereof for the sake of beauty and perhaps the exact idea of slowing the machines down, I suppose) AND the geometry necessary for couture design and construction. You can’t have ANY of this without mathematics 🧮 💕
Some of my favorites from the @museoautomovilmoda … a car with a tank too big to fill, a car with the steering wheel in the middle of the dash to comfortably support two front passengers, a dress made of pyramidal origami, and a sign that proclaims “an enigmatic beauty is mysterious,” a reminder to all of us that when it comes to beauty, less is more.
This is what I strive to do, find connections between art, STEAM, and beauty and if inspiration strikes, words of encouragement and empowerment to women 💕 who says we can’t have it all?
